Ugly, Ugly, Ugly

The day was ugly, cold and rainy and that’s a good description of the Cowboys play here today… minus the rainy part. I wanted to see some cohesiveness from the offense… some kind of impressive drive. Instead I saw a shaky Tony Romo (again). I’m starting to get worried about him. He hasn’t looked good in the month of December. He looked like he was pressing a bit today to get his record. He did play into the third quarter… just long enough to break a Cowboys record for completions in one season with 335.

One bright note, DeMarcus Ware proves he belongs in the Pro Bowl. Realistically, the Cowboy D gave up just 13 points in the first half.

The Cowboys have two weeks to get things right. Hopefully, the time off is what this team needs.

A Look Back At ‘07 Predictions

I’m a man… I’m 37!!!!! Ask me… I’m a man!!! Sorry… just went off on a Mike Gundy (coach at Oklahoma State) rant. But, yes, go ahead and ask me about my 2007 predictions… I can take it!!! Turns out I’m no Nostradamus and can certainly not see the future. Turns out, I was one of five in my ‘07 predictions. Take a look and don’t laugh too loud:

1. Mavericks Win First NBA Title.

WRONG. I thought this one was a no-brainer. Too bad, the Mavs drew Nellie and Golden State in the first round. One things for sure, I’m not picking them in ‘08.

2. Bill Parcells Back As Coach, TO Gone.

WRONG…. BIGTIME. I thought the Tuna saw something in Tony Romo last year and knew that he would have an excellent chance at reaching the Super Bowl. I figured that would light a fire for him to return. I was right about the Cowboys being Super Bowl material, but wrong on Parcells. And I thought, if the Tuna stayed, TO would have to go.

3. Horned Frogs are BCS Busters! Look for the Frogs to scare the hell out of Texas in Austin next year… maybe even beat them.

WRONG… but kind of RIGHT. TCU wasn’t nearly BCS worthy. They lost a few games they should have one and quarterback Andy Dalton didn’t develop quite as quickly as I thought. Although, I think we will be a solid QB for the purple the next three years. The Frogs did lead Texas at the half, before wearing down in the second half.

4. SMU Back to a Bowl Game.

WRONG. I thought with a solid quarterback in Justin Willis, the Mustangs would finally get back to a bowl game for the first time in more than 30 years. Didn’t happen. The Ponies are probably the most hard-luck team in college football. They lost two games in overtime and lost two in the final seconds!!!

5. Southlake Carroll Loses.

RIGHT. Turns out the Dragons lost twice. Once to a tough top-ranked Miami Northwestern and in the playoffs to Abilene. I did say Riley Dodge would end up at UNT with Pops and he will head to Denton in the fall.

I vow to do much better next year. My 2008 predictions coming soon!!!

Mmmm good! Southern Cooking in Charlotte

I just blew it!!! I had planned to eat light and good before Christmas, but that plan went out the window here in Charlotte. Here in the Bank of America Stadium presbox, the food was too good to pass up. I had fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole and topped it off with banana pudding!!! I actually had two helpings of the stuff. It was gooooooood!!! You know what else they have up here? Krispy Creme doughnuts. OMG!!! I’m walking out of here five pounds heavier!

Not Jessica’s Fault Or Is It?

It’s not Jessica Simpson’s fault that the Cowboys lost. She was cheering as loud as she could!!! Simpson didn’t throw three interceptions and fumble a few times! It was the real number nine that did that, not the hot blonde in the pink and white Romo jersey. BUT… there is a disturbing trend developing regarding Tony’s girlfriends at Texas Stadium. Last year, Romo’s then girlfriend Carrie Underwood, was in the house to see Tony have a horrible game in a loss to the Eagles. Today, Simpson saw her man play his worst game ever.

Message to Tony… kudos on the girls. They are both super hot, but leave them at home next time… say you’ll take them to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. They’ll be OK with that!

Jessica Simpson in the house!

I am sitting directly across from Jessica Simpson here at Texas Stadium… albeit across the field and some 100 yards away. She’s in a suite. I’m on the other side of the field in the pressbox. She’s wearing a pink and white #9 Tony Romo jersey. She smiled for the TV cameras and her hair does look lovely. She’s sitting in a suite at the 40-yard-line with her father.

UPDATE… in the second half, Jessica has moved to the back row of seats in the suite. I guess she was too much of a distraction. Does that explain why Tony Romo is just awful through three quarters? Hmmmm? Wondering minds want to know!

Commish Must Come Down Hard

I was just going over the list of names in the Mitchell Report. Some pretty big names like Clemens, Pettitte, Tejada are there. I had heard rumblings that Clemens was a steroid user and now those rumblings are true.

It’s tough, but now commissioner, Bud Selig, needs to come down hard on the offenders. There is no other way to clean up the game and make baseball clean. It stinks, because I am a big Rocket fan, but Clemens should be hit hard. Reports say he used while with the Yankees. Selig says he will go through each name and will hand out punishment on a case by case basis. He sounded sincere today and I sure hope he is. I love baseball and I want to pass on my love of baseball to my eight-year-old son. Tonight, I’ll explain what this entire mess means. It will serve as a lesson to him… cheaters never win.

Ford Field Top-Notch

This is my third visit to Ford Field here in Detroit and everytime I come, I notice something new about this place. First of all, I can see why the NFL held a Super Bowl here. The place is massive. The pressbox is huge. The corridors downstairs for the fans are wide. There is so much space in this place!

I also like the industrial feel as well as the brown brick wall surrounding the field. Did I mention the music? The best in the league. I little Soulja Boy, Journey, Michael Jackson… nice mix.

The only bad thing… the stupid fight song that is sung after every Lions score. It is sooooo bad!!!! I think the man singing it is the only one that carries the tune. So far, he’s had a lot to sing about…. Detroit 13, Cowboys 7 in the 2nd.

No Country For Old Men

Just saw this movie and it was great! I’d highly recommend it. The Coen brothers served as both writers and directors of this one and I had to say it was truly brilliant. It comes down to the quintessential struggle of good versus evil, but with a twist. Tommy Lee Jones stars in this one as well, but oddly, he’s not the star. He still is a central figure.

Here’s a quick synopsis from movie.com: Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) stumbles across a pickup truck surrounded by several corpses and filled with heroin and two million dollars in cash, which he promptly takes off with. However, attempting to retrieve the stolen booty are the proper owners of the drugs and money, who are none too pleased, including a psychotic killer (Javier Bardem) who judges people’s lives with the flip of a coin.

I must say Bardem’s (at right) portrayal of the serial killer is chilling. Kind of like Hannibal Lector. You won’t soon forget his performance. Brolin was great as well. I must warn of something though…. well, I’ll let you find out for yourself!

BCS Stinks!

What a shambles the BCS is this year! LSU and Ohio State for all the marbles in January. LSU is a two-loss team. Ohio State has lost once, but doesn’t play a conference championship game like most other teams. That is where the inequity lies. If the BCS system is legit, then all schools should have to play a championship game… bottom line!! The Buckeyes are talented, but they did not get tested in a conference title game like LSU or Oklahoma.

The system isn’t fair. I would say the same thing if a one-loss Oregon or USC team made it to the title game. The Pac 10 doesn’t hold a title game either.

I wouldn’t have a problem with the system if EVERYONE was on common ground.
