Cowboys Honor ‘77, ‘92 Teams

Just finished talking with some of the ‘92 Super Bowl champion Cowboys. They are fired up about tonight’s game against the Packers. Troy Aikman told me that driving to tonight’s game got him pumped up. He wished he was putting on the pads!

Former All-Pro tight end, Jay Novacek, told me he wishes he could bottle up games like these and re-use them sometime. Jay still looks in great shape.

The funniest soundbite came from Darren Woodson. He told our Newy Scruggs that walking down the tunnel he had flashbacks of playing again, but then his back started acting up!!! That ended those flashbacks in a hurry!

Snowing at Texas Stadium; Clarkson Staying Put

It’s snowing (very lightly) here during the Cowboys-Jets game. Remember the last time that happened? I know you do!!! Here’s hint… Leon Lett!!! Remember Lett back in 1993 against the Dolphins!!! His blunder led to a late Dolphins game-winning touchdown. It was one of the biggest gaffes in franchise history.

It’s a little slick on the halftime stage for Kelly Clarkson’s performance. I’m just waiting to see Kelly bust it!!! She’s not moving around much now. I wonder if she was warned? Right now the only thing moving is her lips!!! I don’t blame her. She doesn’t want to be a featured attration on youtube!!! By the way, the halftime show was lame.

"Giant" Win For Cowboys

Count me as one of those that thought the Cowboys would lose here to the Giants. Instead, this team turned back the Gents, 31-20. Wade’s boys now have a commanding two-game lead over the Giants and even have the tiebreaker should the Giants catch up to them since the Cowboys swept the season series.

After the game, outside the locker room, the Cowboys were giddy! Many of them yelling as they jogged into their locker room. Roy Williams ran by the media gathered outside and yelled mockingly, “And ya’ll didn’t think we’d win!” Last week, Williams said he didn’t read or listen to the media, obviously that’s not true. How would he have known that a handful of writers and broadcasters picked the Giants is this one!!! Roy has been watching and listening! Whatever. Big win by the Cowboys. I say their biggest of the season.

Tank Rolls In

Tank Johnson just entered the game for the first time. The embattled defensive lineman was suspended for the first eight games of the season for violating parole on gun charges.

Johnson was double-teamed early. A few plays later, he was whistled for defensive holding (illegal hands to the face). The Giants went on to score to take a 14-10 lead. Look for Tank to see spot duty throughout the game.

Cowboys Will Weather the Cold

This will be the Cowboys first true cold weather game of the season. Temperatures are falling and will get into the 30s tonight here in New Jersey. There was a nip in the air last week in Philly, but it’s downright cold here.

The Giants fans are bundled up. There are heated benches on the sidelines for both teams. As this game goes on, the mercury will fall. It’s football weather!!!!

Giants Getting New Digs

The Cowboys aren’t the only team with a new stadium on the horizon. The Giants and Jets are also building a brand-spanking new facility here in the Meadowlands. Just by my eyes, it looks like the stadium is about 6 months to a year behind the new Cowboys stadium in Arlington. I can see the cranes from my perch high atop the Giants stadium press box.

And I guess my eyes are pretty good. The new stadium here will be ready by the 2010 season. The Cowboys stadium will be ready in 2009. The new stadium here looks nice. You can view pics of the new venue here: http://www.nynjfootball.com/.

Cowboys Maul McNabb and Eagles

Wow!!! I didn’t see this coming. I thought the Cowboys would win here in Philly, but not like this. This team put its most complete game together tonight against the Eagles and will leave here with an impressive win… that’s if everything continues. I’m writing this with 4:30 left to go in the third quarter and the Cowboys up, 35-10. After that Tony Romo to Jason Witten score, thousands of Philly fans hit the exits!!!

Looks like the week off did the Cowboys good. Defensively, they were stellar. They put tons of pressure on Donovan McNabb. Offensively, Romo was awesome. He started the game 7 of 7 and led the Cowboys to two touchdowns on their first two drives. Looks like the millions of dollars Jerry threw at him hasn’t gone to his head!

Props to the Philly Pressbox

It’s minutes before gametime here in Philly and we’re being treated to some good stuff in the pressbox. Down on the field, in-house cameras have captured some great audio from the players who are going through their pre-game workouts.

We heard Terrell Owens talk about his return to Philly while stretching on the field. We just heard the Eagles defense get all fired up as well in their huddle. Cool stuff and a great perspective. Maybe the Cowboys will provide the press with something similar in the new stadium? Jerry are you listening?

Fran and Callahan Gone

No doubt about it now… A&M’s Dennis Franchione and Nebraska’s Bill Callahan will be looking for jobs in just a few weeks. Today proves that the leaders of two proud programs have fallen bigtime.

As of this writing, the Aggies are getting pummeled by the Sooners in Norman, 35-0! It’s come to the point, where A&M can’t compete with the elite of the conference. It’s looking like the win over Texas last year was a fluke. The Aggies haven’t turned the corner… they’re stuck in neutral and slowly sliding backwards. A change is needed. This program isn’t any better than when R.C. Slocum was running things in College Station.

Be thankful Aggies, things could be worse. Just ask any Nebraska fan. Yikes!!! 76-39! The Huskers lose 76-39 at Kansas. It’s the school’s worst loss ever. This program is in shambles and needs new direction.

Let the talk about successors in College Station and Lincoln begin.

Can’t Figure Out Longhorns

I still don’t know what to make of this year’s Texas Longhorns. I was in Austin to watch the Horns take on Nebraska last Saturday. I went strictly as a fan. For the first time in a while, I was able to tailgate before a game and truly enjoy the whole game experience. But, I left scratching my head.

This Texas team has no identity. Their running game was absent until this game when Jamaal Charles finally broke free for more nearly 300 yards!! But, remember this was against the worst rushing defense in the conference. Colt McCoy is constantly running for his life. The offensive line is young and suspect. Defensively, the Longhorns seem to be vulnerable to the long pass. The only game where the Horns have been able to put it all together in was in a blowout win over cellar-dweller Iowa State. But throughout all of their troubles, both on and off the field, this team is 7-2! Not bad at all, considering the parity in college football. We’ll see what happens in Stillwater this weekend. I don’t know what to expect!
