Funny story here… Cowboys punter, Matt McBriar was practicing punting before tonight’s game against the Vikings when he shanked one to the sidelines right in the direction of Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones. JJ dodged the punt, but the football landed on a Chevy truck parked on the side of the field and put a dent in it! Mr. Johnny on the spot, Jerry Jones, with TV cameras rolling, ran over to the truck and said if that truck would have been a Ford, there wouldn’t have been a dent!!! Ahh, Jerry… never one to miss out on an opportunity. Remember Ford was the official sponsor of Cowboys training camp.

I did meet “Steinarr”… a crazy Viking fan dressed up in his Nordic finest outside the stadium. Steinarr had a big Viking blowhorn, was crazy and looked cool so we put him on TV. He even had two cronies who played along with him. Fun stuff!
So, now Mark Cuban will be a contestant on Dancing With the Stars. Why? Former athletes have done well… Emmitt Smith, Olympic skater Apollo Ohno… but NBA owners? Well, Cuban will be the first. Mark’s in good shape, but I just don’t see him with rhythm and I don’t see him wearing tight silk pants and sequence tops! Scary! On second thought, good ahead and do it Mark… I need a good laugh!
Got any Michael Vick trading cards? If you do, you may be able to make some real good money on Ebay! Rochelle Steffen, a collector from Missouri, had 22 Vick cards. She threw them on the floor and had her three dogs go at it!!! They chewed and tore the cards. Then Steffen, put the cards up on Ebay for auction. Right now, the bidding for the cards is near $500!!! Can you believe that? Steffen says the money she gets will go to the Humane Society of the bidder’s choice.
Michael Vick is pleading guilty on federal dogfighting charges and they way I see it, his football career is likely over. We are a nation of second chances, but by the time Vick is cleared to play, it will likely be the 2009 or 2010 season. What team would want a near 30-year-old QB then?
Vick’s strength is his speed and you have to figure he will lose a step or two. Maybe a team will take him as a back-up… maybe.
I bet Vick wishes he had picked a different hobby…. stamp collecting sounds real good about now!
24-6…. that’s the real score of last night’s game. Why? That’s because that’s the score of the first team Cowboys vs. the first team Broncos.
I like what Tony Romo said about the preseason. He said “if you can’t do what you want to do during the preseason, how can you do it in the regular season?” He’s right… and last night the Cowboys basically did what they wanted to do. The first team defense kept the Broncos out of the endzone. The offense rolled up big yards and three scores on the ground. Better yet… no injuries. So far, so good.
Who doesn’t have a blog? Danny Holifield (a.k.a. Wade Phillips) is blogging about his experiences about being a dead ringer for the Cowboys coach. You may remember, we featured Danny in a story on NBC5. He was mobbed by fans outside the Alamodome during Cowboys training camp. Hilarious. You can view Danny’s blog at http://wadephillipstwin.blogspot.com/ .
Can you believe it? Sports gambling has sunk to new lows. An offshore gambling service is taking bets on the upcoming Southlake Carroll-Miami Northwestern high school football game. High school!!!
I’m not even going to give out the site… they don’t deserve your interest or mine. It’s a shame that sports betting has trickled down to the high school level. My worry is some teens figuring out a way to bet online. Worse… being able to bet and then play in the very same game!!! Sounds outlandish, but in today’s internet-saavy age… anything is possible.
