Five Predictions for 2007

I’m not going to do the resolution thing. Who really keeps them anyway? Instead five BOLD predictions for the new year. OK, some not as bold as others:

1. Mavericks Win First NBA Title. OK, that’s not so bold, considering they played for it all last season, but this Mavs team is looking really good. They have beaten the Spurs and the Suns twice. No one in the East scares me. Plus, Avery Johnson is as good as it gets when it comes to coaching. He keeps finding ways to keep his team focused. Think about it, how often do you see the Mavs suffer really ugly losses?

2. Bill Parcells Back As Coach, TO Gone. Some say it will happen the other way, I say not. I think Tony Romo has given the old coach a reason to stay. He sees a whole lot of potential in the kid. He keeps the coaching passion burning in the Tuna. As for TO… he’s gone. He wasn’t and never will be a Parcells guy. I say ship him to somewhere like Buffalo… or better yet, the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL!!! Is that their mascot?

3. Horned Frogs are BCS Busters! Look for the Frogs to scare the hell out of Texas in Austin next year… maybe even beat them. I can’t believe I just typed that. TCU will have a stellar defense that will keep them in games while the offense catches up. Gary Patterson’s team will sweep through the Mountain West and play in a bigtime bowl game. How about a Purple road trip to Tempe?

4. SMU Back to a Bowl Game. Phil Bennett finally has a solid quarterback in Justin Willis and the Mustangs will win seven, maybe eight games and head to their first bowl game in more than 30 years. The Ponies came close this season and showed loads of progress. Two winning college football teams in the Metroplex… that hasn’t happened in decades. I’ll have to do the research on that one.

5. Southlake Carroll Loses. Hey… it’s bound to happen sooner or later. I like the guys in green, but with their head coach moving up the road, the Dragons fall late in the playoffs. Then, quarterback, Riley Dodge, announces he’s committed to… where else…. UNT!! That’s an easy one!

Have a great 2007!
